There are some areas of our home that feel as though they could always use more TLC, no matter how much cleaning gets done. Wet areas such as kitchens and bathrooms usually display the most amount of damage. They take a lot of time to clean, and it's hard to keep them looking their best. Here's what you can do to prevent damage and keep these high traffic areas of your home cleaner for longer. No hacks, gadgets, or mixing white vinegar with anything, just four everyday products that you can find at your local supermarket to get the job done.
The one common problem that we all face is water spotting on shower screens. Prevention measures need to be started long before you see the signs of damage, because by then it will be too late. Unless you would like to spend your shower time with a squeegee (not our idea of fun) we recommend using CLR. Find the bottle with the twist-off lid and invert it while holding a clean, damp cloth over the opening. Wipe the inside of your shower screen starting from the bottom and work your way up to the top. Water tends to sit at the base of the screen, so this will be the area that displays the most amount of damage. This will keep your shower screen looking clean and clear and will act as a barrier to prevent damage until your next clean.
Ensuring your toilets are perfectly clean can be challenging, especially in those hard to reach places, such as under the lip or below the water line. They are constantly holding water, which can cause damage alone, especially to toilets that are not used often or have internal leaks. To keep your toilets looking their best, we recommend using bleach tablets. It's the safest way to use bleach, as they don't emit vapour, so you don't have to compromise your health while cleaning. Place two bleach tablets into the toilet and let them sit for a few hours or overnight and scrub afterwards. This is a great way to reach any build up below the water line. You can also do this to freshen up toilets that aren't frequently used and might be displaying mould.
The kitchen is such a high traffic area and can produce build up quite easily if it's not looked after. Wiping down after dinner time can be made easy with the perfect product, and this vanilla spray is just that. It is food safe, antibacterial and environmentally friendly. It is perfect for wiping down after cooking or frying, as it cuts through grease and oil easily with no residue left behind. Use it to wipe out the fridge, microwave or the bin to completely neutralise any odours. This is our favourite everyday product and a must have, it will also leave your whole home with a fresh vanilla scent.
It needs no mention as it is already a staple in every single home, but this list wouldn't be complete without it. Gumption is great for everyone, as it is non toxic, free from harsh chemicals and leaves a fresh scent. Perfect for sinks and basins, it can also be used on bath tubs and showers. It will cut through grease and oil while removing build up and stubborn stains. Just be careful while using Gumption as it is abrasive and can scratch certain surfaces. Happy cleaning!
